Mountaineer Casino And Sportsbook

Mountaineer Casino And Sportsbook

The Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort is located in New Cumberland. It is one of five West Virginia casinos.

The Mountaineer is in the farthest northern outpost of West Virginia. The property sits on the eastern bank of the Ohio River, which forms the border between West Virginia and Ohio.

Oddly enough, despite the casino’s location, its closest large city is Pittsburgh. The city in western Pennsylvania is merely 45 miles east of the property.

Gaming company Eldorado Resorts owns the Mountaineer. The company owns 21 properties, but this is its only West Virginia one. Eldorado Resorts also has a partnership with sports betting giant Caesars Sportsbook.

Mountaineer sports betting

On Oct. 22, The Mountaineer applied for a sports betting license. The casino officially launched sports betting on Nov. 21. Its Caesars Sports Book features a video wall showcasing numerous games, HD televisions and plenty of seating.

The Mountaineer marks three of five WV casinos with sports betting licenses that have actually launched betting. WV Lottery officials have stated several times that they expect functional sportsbooks at all five casinos before 2018 ends.

The Mountaineer debuted its app in WV in September 2020. The launch was the fourth for mobile sports betting in West Virginia. The app is available for both Android and Apple (iOS) users.

Casino and racetrack

The Mountaineer is not a small operation, considering its location. Even though Pittsburgh is less than an hour away, the casino is competing with some of the closer options to Steel City.

That said, the Mountaineer acquits itself well with the options for bettors. There are plenty of games to play.

Slots

Mountaineer has over 1,525 slot machines to offer patrons for play. The games spread across 78,000 square feet of gaming space.

The slot machine options include several video poker machines. Jackpots at the machines can award prizes in the five-digit range.

The space features both a smoking pavilion and a large non-smoking area. There is also a high-limit area with machine limits as high as $100 per spin.

Table games

The Mountaineer offers 36 table games with a variety of games for play. Those games include:

  • Craps
  • Blackjack (which includes side betting In-Bet In Between)
  • Roulette
  • Three Card Poker
  • Texas Hold’em Bonus
  • Let It Ride
  • Mississippi Stud
  • Four Card Poker
  • Spanish 21

Poker

The Mountaineer offers the River Poker Room for guests looking to win big on the felt. The room is open 24 hours a day.

River Poker Room offers several promotions to poker players at the Mountaineer. Some of the promos are:

  • Happy Hour Hand – Sundays, noon – midnight
  • $50 High Hand – Tuesdays and Thursdays, noon – midnight
  • Jokers Wild High Hand – Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. – midnight
  • Win a Bounty Seat – Monday – Thursday and Sunday, all day

The room also offers tournaments on several days in the week. They include a rebuy tournament on Mondays, two Wednesday tournaments, and a $120 bounty tournament on the last Sunday of the month.

Racing

Like most West Virginia casinos, Mountaineer features a horse racing track that has live racing year-round. West Virginia online horse betting takes place on at TVG, as the online sportsbook partnered with Mountaineer does not offer racing.

The signature event at the track is the grade-3 $200,000 Governor’s Purse. The event runs in early August each year.

The Mountaineer’s track is a turf surface, which is unusual for most tracks in the area — most are dirt tracks. However, the track’s handle was over $1 million last year, making the track a destination for many racing aficionados.

Any patron of the Mountaineer can join the ONE Club membership program. The ONE Club allows players to acquire points good for redemption at any Eldorado property.

Amenities and entertainment

Playing in the casino is not the only thing to do at The Mountaineer. There are a host of other activities at the resort.

The chief among these is the Woodview Golf Course. This course, minutes from the property, is a full 18-hole course with par 72.

The course plays over 6,000 yards from the blue tees. Guests at the Mountaineer are able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of northern West Virginia while they play a round.

If relaxation is more your style, the Spa at Mountaineer is waiting. Patrons can find a wide variety of available services, including massage, facials, nail care and hair care.

Guests can also tone at the fitness center. The center is open 24 hours a day.
