$50K Powerball Winner Sold In Small West Virginia Town Of Davis
Davis, West Virginia, boasts a quartet of churches, hotels, and camping sites, with the crown jewel being the magnificent Blackwater Falls State Park. Additionally, this charming town can now proudly call itself the residence of a fortunate Powerball winner.
Last week, officials from the West Virginia Lottery disclosed that a ticket worth $50,000 had been sold in Davis, a small town with a population of 660 residents. However, as of Wednesday, the fortunate winner had yet to claim their prize. The West Virginia Lottery is currently withholding the information regarding the specific location where the winning ticket was purchased, awaiting the winner’s appearance.
Finding it shouldn’t be difficult at all. In Davis, there are just three Powerball retailers: the Shop N Save on Williams Avenue, the BFS Foods on Blackwater Falls Drive, and the BFS Foods on the Appalachian Highway.
Winner hit four numbers and the Powerball
West Virginia is actively involved in three interstate lottery games, namely Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lotto America. The annual revenue generated from West Virginia Lottery ticket sales exceeds $1 billion, with approximately 50% of this amount dedicated to supporting education and senior services.
In the drawing held on April 12, the lucky numbers were 9-36-41-44-59, with the Powerball number being 4. The fortunate winner successfully matched four of the numbers as well as the Powerball.
After winning, it is important for the winner to promptly endorse the back of the ticket and then get in touch with West Virginia Lottery officials at (304) 558-0500 to verify the prize.
Davis touts itself as highest incorporated town in West Virginia
Davis, a small town situated near the Blackwater River and a few miles north of the Canaan Valley, is conveniently located in close proximity to the Maryland border.
According to the town website, Davis, located in West Virginia, boasts the highest elevation among incorporated towns in the state, standing at an impressive 3,520 feet. One might wonder if the mayor, Alan Tomson, has struck it lucky like winning a jackpot.
Located along I-48, Davis was a thriving town during the early 1900s, flourishing as a center for textile, timber, and mining industries. With a population exceeding 2,000, it stood as a testament to the economic boom experienced during that era.
The number of residents in Davis has significantly declined over time. The town has successfully transformed into a popular tourist spot, known for its abundance of thrilling outdoor activities such as skiing and biking in the nearby mountainous terrain. In addition to its adventurous appeal, Davis boasts a modest selection of 11 restaurants, including a delightful ice cream shop. Situated in Tucker County, Davis contributes to the county’s low population count, with just under 7,000 inhabitants, ranking it among the least densely populated counties in West Virginia.
Winning ticket in January sold in Beckley
In January, the Powerball ticket that made the last winner from West Virginia was bought in Beckley, which is located quite a distance away from Davis. Beckley, a town of around 17,000 residents, is positioned in the southern region of the state, near Roanoke, VA.
The West Virginia Lottery never disclosed the identity of the winner, who also successfully matched four numbers along with the Powerball.
The cost of a Powerball ticket is $2, and it increases to $3 when the Powerplay option is included.
The upcoming Powerball drawing will take place on Saturday.
