Play’n Go Secures West Virginia Online Casino License

Play’n Go — a major gaming supplier company — landed its third license in the US in late December when it gained access to the West Virginia online gambling market.

Play’n Go CCO Magnus Olsson said in a statement:

“West Virginia’s regulated iGaming marketplace is thriving, and it’s brilliant to be able to finish the year strongly by acquiring a license.”

Play’n Go helps power WV online slots

Play’n Go, based in Sweden, is one of the world’s largest suppliers of online slots. Founded in 2005, the company boasts connections to regulated casino operators in 25 jurisdictions.

Olsson said:

“Players are different in terms of their game preferences in every jurisdiction, of course, but the common thread that runs through all players is that the quality content rises to the top — players want to be entertained first and foremost. Our games are proving to be a main vehicle of retention for many operators due to their inherent entertainment value.”

The developer offers more than 50 gaming titles nationally.

Play’n Go partners with BetMGM online casino in other states

In what CEO Johan Törnqvist called a “landmark moment,” the company launched in Michigan earlier this month thanks to a partnership with BetMGM online casino. However, it received its license in July. Olsson said at the time of the Michigan launch:

“As states like Michigan, New Jersey and others have shown, there is considerable demand from players for safely and responsibly organized iGaming entertainment opportunities. I’m sure we’ll see more states introduce regulated iGaming over the coming 12 to 24 months, and I know that Play’n Go is exceptionally well positioned to thrive in the USA.”

Another agreement with BetMGM landed Play’n Go in the New Jersey market in November. Play’n Go also boasts licenses in Ontario and the European market.

West Virginia online gambling sector thriving

Online gambling is only growing in the Mountain State.

Just last month, Hacksaw Gaming announced plans to make its US debut in West Virginia. Similar to Play’n Go in that it offers online slots, Hacksaw Gaming offers West Virginians more than 120 online games.

Shortly before Hacksaw Gaming’s arrival, Internet Vikings and EveryMatrix agreed on a West Virginia partnership. Internet Vikings (a cloud hosting partner) will provide hosting services to EveryMatrix (an online gambling software company), according to their partnership.

WV gaming market continues to grow

Play’n Go’s announcement comes at a perfect time. WV casino and sports betting numbers all grew month over month in the latest report from the West Virginia Lottery.

Looking specifically at online gambling, West Virginians gambled just north of $311 million in November. Winners grabbed roughly $300 million, which resulted in $10.3 million in WV gambling revenue for the month.

Unlike casino gambling and sports betting, though, West Virginia’s online gambling numbers fell 1.86% month over month. In October, gamblers wagered a little more than $317 million.

Play’n Go’s CCO doesn’t seem too worried, though. Olsson said:

“Play’n Go delivers new entertainment each and every week to players in regulated markets right across the world, and I’m sure that players in West Virginia will enjoy the full Play’n Go portfolio that is unmatched in the industry.”

West Virginians aren’t strangers to online gambling, although the industry is relatively new. The West Virginia Lottery Interactive Wagering Act became law on March 27, 2019.

WV gambling scene not last stop for Play’n Go

Don’t expect the company to quiet down now that it has landed in its third state. Törnqvist alluded to more changes on the horizon. Specifically, he hinted about further US expansion and making the company a household name to Americans.

“Our aim is to see Play’n Go games become as beloved in the US as they are in every other regulated market around the world,” he said.
